What is the best FREE Mac text editor?

Sure, TextMate is a great text editor, but it costs $$$. What is your favorite free text editor on a Mac? Preferably with HTML highlighting, and the ability to add other languages (Ruby, PHP, etc) and create your own (such as BZW).

hello to all and i'm glad that i found this forum !!!
a good idea to gather the mac-map-maker and to share our work around's with the little handicap of not having an up-to-date software for complete map-making.
back to the subject ::: i use TextWrangler from barebones.com. here some info about it :::
TextWrangler is the powerful general purpose text editor, and Unix and server administrator’s tool.
At its most basic, a text editor is a tool for simply editing text. You can use a text editor for a wide variety of tasks from cleaning up data, to editing configuration files on your Mac or server, to writing HTML or coding.
